Thursday Summary - Finish Year

Well, I'm not off to a good start at regularly updating my finish year progress.

As I mentioned earlier... inspired by Jon Acuff's blog, I decided to start a "Finish Year". (See Jon's post "Here's what we're doing")

Here's how I have done since the last update:
1. I am going to take my wife out for at least 6 dates (one per month in the last 6 months of the year).
This week my wife and I went out for another Marriage Mentor's date. We had a great meal and visit at some friends house. I don't necessarily consider this a "date" since it was with other couples, but it was very enriching to our marriage. We completed session 5 of the Love and Respect video series. This has been a great study and I would highly recomend the book Love & Respect by: Emerson Eggerichs
Hopefully, I can take my lovely wife out for a "real date" next week.

2. I am going to finish handwriting the book of proverbs in a  journal that I can later give to my son.
I finished handwriting Proverbs chapters 1-3 in the journal! i'm working on chapter 4 now and hope to complete that by the weekend.
3. I am going to get my weight down to 195 lbs while maintaining or gaining muscle mass.
I'm at 215 right now. This is actually up some from my last update, but I feel like I have gained some muscle the last few weeks... I have certainly gained some strength. If I have not dropped any lbs by next week, I will make some changes to the diet to start moving back in the right direction.

That's how I did. How about you?

Monday Summary - Finish Year

Last week, inspired by Jon Acuff's blog, I decided to start a "Finish Year". (See Jon's post "Here's what we're doing")

Here's how I did this week:
1. I am going to take my wife out for at least 6 dates (one per month in the last 6 months of the year).
This week my wife and I went out to our Marriage Mentor's date. We also had our 9th anniversary this week. Because we had already been out earlier in the week, we decided to stay home with the kids and not spend time and money on a meal out.
I'm hoping that we can have a real date either this week or next (although with all the events around the 4th, it will probably have to be next week)

2. I am going to finish handwriting the book of proverbs in a  journal that I can later give to my son.
I finished handwriting Proverbs chapters 1 and 2 in the journal! I plan to do some more this week as I have free time and hope to get at least 2 more chapters done by this time next week.

3. I am going to get my weight down to 195 lbs while maintaining or gaining muscle mass.
I'm at 212 right now. I had some good workouts last week and my eating was just ok, so hopefully this week I will actually loose a pound or so.

That's how I did. How about you?

A new journal

Inspired by Jon Acuff's blog I have decided that I too would like to enjoy a "Finish Year".
I had already set some goals for this year before I ever found Jon Acuff.
Now, however, I am transitioning to a "finish year" set of goals. I am determined not to have written goals that don't mean anything... I am determined now that I am going to have goals that I am able to finish. So the first inspiration that I received from Jon was to write goals for the year that I am able to finish.
Another important piece of inspiration that I gained from Jon was found in his own finish year blog. Jon's sixth goal is, "I am going to finish handwriting out the entire book of Proverbs in a moleskine notebook."
From this entry, I too have been inspired to also handwrite the entire book of Proverbs. I want to write this out for my son in a journal that I can deliver to him, hopefully on his 12th or 13th birthday as he transitions into manhood.

Here are my goals for the remainder of the year:
1. I am going to take my wife out for at least 6 dates (one per month in the last 6 months of the year).
2. I am going to finish handwriting the book of proverbs in a journal that I can later give to my son.
3. I am going to get my weight down to 195 lbs while maintaining or gaining muscle mass.

That's it for now (I reserve the right to add some more goals later). I plan to check in each Sunday and post my progress in each of these areas.
